If you have a team of people you need to work closely with, and who aren't necessarily in
the same place at the same time, an online collaboration area can be quite helpful.
With our group software each of you have your own login, and you have a shared area where
you can work on projects together. There are various possible tools that optionally might
be used for that. For example:
- NewsLog
- Bulletin Board
- Conversation Room
- Calendar
- Project List
- Shared File Area
Different tools are useful for different purposes. A NewsLog can show news items, and be used
for announcing to the outside world what this group is doing. A bulletin board is useful
to make comments on many subjects at the same time, and still having them remain organized.
A conversation room is a continuous stream of messages, which might be helpful for less
structured purposes, to just talk something over. In a calendar you can post deadlines and
important events. In the project list you can keep track of the major projects that are going
on, and who is working on them. In the shared file area you can upload files from other
programs you happen to use, like picture files or spreadsheets or word processing documents.
The administrator of the group can invite new people into the group, who right away will
have access to the same facilities as everybody else.
